Procedures for Installing SiriusXM SXPL1V1 Onyx Plus Satellite Radio Receiver - 2017 Harley Davidson Trike

In lieu of purchasing the Harley Davidson Sirius XM Radio module for $400,  I decided to purchase and install the Sirius XM SXPL1V1 Onyx Plus Satellite Receiver with Vehicle Kit.  This allows me to use the receiver in my motorhome, van, and trike.  The entire project cost around $120-140 dollars and took about an hour for installation.  Below is a link to the Sirius Onyx Plus Receiver and Handlebar Mount:

In addition to the receiver, you need to purchase and install a 3.5 Auxillary Input Kit from Harley Davison.  The Kit cost $39.95.  This kit will allow the radio to receive music from the Aux 2 input on the Media Menu.  See below link:

Note:  After the kit is installed, you must have an HD dealer install a flash to the radio to be able to use the new auxiliary input. Before leaving the dealer, check to make sure you have (2) new Auxillary inputs on the Media selection on your radio.  You will have to select Aux 2 to play your receiver.

Here is the procedure for the installation after purchasing the above-mentioned items.

To remove the front fairing and windshield, remove the two outside screws on your windshield using a Trex screwdriver.  Leave the center screw to hold the windshield in place while the fairing is removed.  To remove the fairing; remove the upper and lower screws on both sides.  The longer screw is at the top.  Once the screws are removed, remove the middle screw of the windshield.  Carefully, lift off the fairing and remove the headlight connection.   Place the faring in an area where it will not be damaged.  Remove the windshield and place it in an area where it will not be damaged.

Installing Aux input cable: Connect the audio jack jumper cable to the black twelve-way Molex connector above the radio using instructions that come with the cable. If you have a CB the procedures are listed as well.

I ran the aux cable to the back of the Media tray which was much easier than removing the tray.  Make sure you pull enough cable to ensure an easy connection to the back of the receiver.

To get a clearer reception, I decided to place the antenna on the top right side of the radio using its magnetic mount.  I bundled the cable and secured it with two tie wraps.  I ran the cable down under the left side of the fairing and continued up to the handlebar to the back of the receiver.  I will have to purchase another antenna for use in the van and motorhome.

You can see the antenna cable below the handlebar on the lower bottom left.  I did secure it with a tie wrap after this photo.

Here's a photo of the handlebar mount and rear of the receiver.  The Grey wire is the Aux input cable.

The receiver installed and operational.  The Media tray cover will remain open when using the aux cable.  The system works great!
